Bring 'em Back!

I am rooting for a lesbian bar comeback!

Make no mistake, I am in no way promoting alcoholism. And nowadays, what’s a good bar that doesn’t have mocktails, an espresso machine and foods to nibble or dine on?

We all know that lesbian bars have been closing from coast-to-coast, but let’s support the ones still open for business and push for new establishments to get on their feet.

First, let me call your attention to something I am sure all lesbians can get behind: SPORTS BRA BAR. Leave it to the gals in Portland, Oregon, Sports Bra Bar is exclusively dedicated to women’s sports. And my goodness, who doesn’t love their mission statement? “To make great food, delicious drinks, and provide a space that supports, empowers, and promotes girls and women in sports and in the community.” Check out this 2022 Vogue article profiling this one-of-a-kind joint!

If you live near NYC, you can catch Dave’s Lesbian Bar which is a bi-monthly pop-up establishment in Queens. Thank you NPR for bringing this to national attention with your 2022 article! And you can follow the current whereabouts of Dave’s Lesbian Bar on Instagram and Twitter.

Want the very most recent listing of open and operating lesbian bars? Visit The Lesbian Bar Project. Their motto is: “When our history isn’t told, we must tell it ourselves.” That’s right!

And, what about odd-girl breweries? Dyke Beer distributes their own recipe of Gos and Farmhouse Ale - Saison in New York State.

Finally, watch the documentary All We’ve Got . It chronicles the disappearance of bars, bookstores and community spaces dedicated to LGBTQ+ women. You can watch the trailer HERE.

Please leave me a note in the comments to tell me about a lesbian bar, new or old, near you!

Addendum:

If you’re in NYC, check out Henrietta Hudson - Queer Human Bar Built by DYKES. It’s the longest standing lesbian bar in the U.S. - 31-years!
